Hoi An and The Impeccable InterContinental Danang

The Impeccable InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort

A Harmonious Blend of Natural and Man-made Elements

Stayed March 2016

After a good stay at the Hyatt Regency Danang, I arrived via a taxi to the exclusive Intercontinental Danang.

The resort is situated on a small peninsula with a enclosed beach as seen in the first photo, and is the only hotel in that region.

I reckon the hotel is rather famous as I had no problems with the taxi ride despite the isolated location.

Security personnel stopped the taxi at the beginning of the private road leading to the resort, but a simple 'I am checking in' was enough to proceed without any written or digital proof.

Staff were waiting at the lobby entrance to greet any guests and our luggage was immediately taken care of.

Lobby Entrance in the evening

The lobby looks beautiful both in the day and in the night (as above).

The central marble fountain is exceptional and creates an air of peace and tranquillity.

Checking in was done by the side on a couch with bright red cushions over a cup of warm tea.

The red colour is really vivid and the couch was really comfortable too.
The process was a little slow although I was in no hurry.

The cash rate and the points rate for this hotel went up these 2 years and is about the same (from my perspective) for now.

I had booked it at a lower point rate before the increase as I had read rave reviews about this resort and was keen to experience it for myself.

Opposite to the lobby is a decorative wall with some interesting detail which I was not able to examine closely during my stay.

After checking in, the staff brought us to our room with a buggy with plastic sheets to shield the guest from the rain on wet days.

The rooms are in different blocks in traditional Vietnamese architecture with a Chinese influence.

The entrance is consistent with the feel of the resort and some entrances have stone lions as well.

The different blocks are a small distance away from each other and provides a significant amount of privacy.

For the first night, the resort was not able to upgrade me, and so I was in the basic (Classic) room. The room is 70 sqm and the my favourite part is the mirror on the ceiling.

This reminds me of Justin Timberlake in his younger days. Gosh I feel so old while typing this.

The bed faces the balcony so one can enjoy the view of the peninsula in comfort.

However, the pillar right in the middle takes away a significant part of the view.

The balcony has a table set and the minibar as seen.

While being given a tour of the room by the staff, I was told monkeys do come to the room and I asked if they might take the bottles of alcohol on the table.

She jokingly replied "Monkeys don't drink" but I do wonder if she thinks I am being stupid. I was actually thinking if the monkeys would take the bottles to play.

The bathroom has dual basins and a large bathtub with a standing shower in the space beside it. The bathroom amenities are from HARNN.

There was fruit and wine on the table as a welcome amenity.

We checked out of the room early next day for a day trip to Hoi An. Transfer via a shared bus was complimentary and there is also an option of a private transfer as well.

Hoi An is a preserved old town and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Japanese Covered Bridge and the riverbank are indeed remarkable.

After the visit to Hoi An, we returned to the resort to an upgraded room, the Terrace Suite.

The room was bigger, but other than that, I actually liked the Classic Room better.

The neighbour was much closer and there was no ceiling mirror!

I was able to see into the rooms in the next block from the terrace of the room and I felt a relative lack of privacy compared to the Classic Room.

Otherwise, the bathroom is similar, but the toilet is now separate from the shower area, in a small room of its own.

From this point in time, I was mainly in the resort and also had purchased club access.

The resort is actually huge with 4 levels and there is a "cable-car" to take guests to the various levels.

The top level is the lobby and Citron restaurant which also houses the Intercontinental Club next to it.

One must definitely take a photo at Citron while seated in the signature outdoor "floating" pod.

The indoor seating is comfortable and the theme on the darker side.

The Club is next to Citron and was really quiet most of the time.

We enjoyed afternoon tea and evening cocktails here. I thought the theme was Zebra stripes but I can't really find a better description.

The central tree is alive and was transplanted into the lounge.

Breakfast can be taken here and club lounge guests are allowed to take dishes from Citron to be consumed within the lounge.

Other Places in the Hotel

The concierge is located a level below the from desk and reminds of a Chinese pawn shop.

On the same level, there are computers, chess boards and even a pool table for use. And video games for the child.

A father watching his son play.

A few large red cushions for relaxation are placed on this level as well.

Many of the facilities are located at the lowest level, the "Sea".

I found a herb garden interesting and reminded me of the limited land we have in Singapore.

There is a cinema at the highest 'Heaven' level, but I did not get to visit the place. I was also not very keen on the movie too.

The 2 pools are located on the 'Sea' level as well and the conventional pool come with a bowl-shaped Jacuzzi.

The infinity pool at the resort is named the L_O_N_G pool and I was rather amused the resort shared my Instagram picture.

The Resort shared my picture!

The spa reception is also here, and the staff would bring the patrons to the spa villas which I didnt get to take a photo of.

The L_O_N_G Bar is at the first level of the L_O_N_G pool.

The gym is at the corner of the L_O_N_G Bar and was unsurprisingly empty during my visit.

A kids' club is also located here, perhaps to entertain the children while the parents are drinking.

As I went pretty early to the beach one day, I was surprised to see the towel counters were not manned.

Maybe I was really too early.

Finally on the last day, I managed to get a photo of the monkeys. I did see a monkey up close on one of the days but I was not fast enough to get a shot of it before it escaped. Into someone's room.

There are also many other beautiful spots scattered around the resort, which is certainly lengthen this protracted review. For more pictures, check out my bears' Instagram!

The visit was really enjoyable and hope my readers would get to experience this resort someday as well!

Happy and Healthy Travels to all!
