No review of Pyramids hotel, missing luggage and a stay at W Bangkok

W Bangkok

Impressed by the breakfast! And the great Thai service quality

 Visited October 2015

Bangkok is definitely a popular destination for many Singaporeans as well as foreigners around the world.

Having been to Bangkok many times, and stayed in many different hotels, I have not typed a review for some of them.

Remarkably, W Bangkok has left a deep enough impression for a share.

I arrived in Bangkok after visiting the Pyramids in Egypt. There is no review of the Le Meridien Pyramids hotel on my blog because I hardly explored the place to take pictures.

This may have been a good thing as it is really unsafe in Egypt at the moment.

In fact, that very hotel was bombed a week after my stay.

 As reported at The Telegraph:

Two hotel security guards and two police were injured by a bomb which exploded outside one of the main luxury tourist hotels near the Pyramids in Cairo on Friday.
The security guards found the bomb in the approach area in front of the Meridien Hotel when they did morning checks at around 6am.

The hotel is really near the Pyramids, which was why I considered the hotel to minimize traveling on the roads.

A picture that I shared on my Instagram shows a view of the magnificent structures right from the room.

I thanked my lucky stars after reading that report.

So, after visiting Cairo, we took Turkish Airlines to Bangkok via Istanbul.

I make a special mention of the airline because the arrival in Istanbul was delayed and thankfully the connecting flight was delayed too.

I made the connecting flight, but, unfortunately, my luggage did not.

So after the long flight to Bangkok, I had to spend more time making a report at the airport regarding my luggage.

After that, due to the delayed arrival in Bangkok, I was stuck in the infamous Bangkok traffic jam.

And so, my friend and I finally arrived at W Bangkok exhausted, late, smelly, aching, and without luggage.

Thankfully, my frequent reading of travel blogs reminded me to always pack a set of clothes in my carry-on bag, and it was useful this time. On the other hand, clothes are readily available in Bangkok.

I think too much, perhaps.

In summary, we were in an extremely foul mood.

At the front desk, we were told we were not given any upgrades and there was no record of our elite SPG status.

My friend was very upset at this and requested to see the duty manager for assistance.

My friend then 'breathed fire' on the duty manager and we were upgraded to a very delightful suite.

Something good after the miserable flights from Cairo, albeit at the expense of the duty manager's mental health.

The suite was indeed very big and nice with 1 1/2 toilets.

The living space does seem to be very dark due to the black furniture and walls.

Placed on the bed is a pair of giant sequined boxing gloves which is the signature of W Bangkok.

The suite has full-sized bottles of Bliss products which I love. Except for the facial wash.

There is also a tablet for guests to use and also as an alarm clock.

A trio of Post-its at the minibar serve as discount coupons which in my opinion are easily missed.

Not that the discounts are that great anyway.

We received welcome gifts which contained some nuts for snacking.

The Glorious Breakfast

I really liked the breakfast so please bear with the large number of pictures of food. This really shows the huge range of food items.

Pancakes and Waffles

Paratha or Prata?

So many types of dressing...

I would say this is the widest selection for buffet breakfast in a hotel ever for me. Totally speechless.

The Gym and Rooftop Pool

W Bangkok has very nice pictures of its pool on the hotel website.

In reality, it wasn't that nice and is really small. I can't imagine the crowd when the hotel is full.

The gym is next to the pool and is not too bad.

Before we left the hotel, I took a few pictures of the lobby and the lobby bar.

To end this story, my luggage arrived safely after almost 24hrs and I was able to claim my travel insurance for delayed luggage.

A short flight back to Singapore and it was a great trip striking off the Great Pyramids from my travel bucket list!

Happy and Healthy Travels to all,
fred
